Our Faith
Our Faith
Faith and Spirituality are key components to the Croushorn way of life. This page is a collection of resources regarding faith and its expression in Christianity. There is a great deal of misrepresentation of Christ by many who call themselves by His name. I hope this page will serve as a clear reflection of Christ's love and character. Julie and I spend time studying the Bible and have found it to be the only trustworthy source for a description of God's character. I hope this page will help others see the Christ we have come to know.
Julie and I were active at Auburn University with an on-campus ministry called The Naivagtors.
What's on my heart...
I have a heart for Prayer and Worship. These two areas provide the most significant parts of the base foundation of my faith. I do not believe in exercising the Christian disciplines two at a time, but these are the two areas that God tends to use to draw me closer to His heart.
More recently the issue of being called has become my focus. The issues around being called to join God in his labors have captivated me and provided confirmation of the vocation God has led me into.
Currently the largest issue on my heart is the way fighting in Iraq has changed my life. God has used a few truly good men and an author, Brennan Manning, that helped me ‘come home’ from Iraq. Specifically, his books, Abba’s Child and Ruthless Trust have provided a great deal of insight on how God views me.
Navigators
The Navigators ministry is a great example of Christianity in action. They are focused on building disciples in much the same way as Christ did. The predominant strategy is to invest one's life in another individual...by spending time with that person in prayer, Bible study, evangelism, etc.... Having started in the military, the Navigators reach people all over the world in many vocational areas. Around 1970 the ministry began extending onto college campuses. The Navigators are not officially affiliated with any denomination. For a good description and statement of belief, look at The Navigators at Auburn Homepage.
Discipleship Journal
Discipleship Journal (DJ) is a wonderful resource for any growing Christian. DJ is one of many ministries of the Navigators. Their theme is "Helping you grow in Christ." There is always a central topic (i.e. prayer, money, grace, etc...). There are also monthly columns/sections on leading bible studies, current trends, and classic passages from saints of old. Each issue is a wealth of spiritual nourishment that any Christian can benefit from. I strongly recommend this resource.
Gospel Communications Network
The Gospel Communications Network is an amazing resource. I have been very impressed with all they have to offer. From Bible searches and devotionals to audio files. GCN is an effective tool for any Christian with internet access. I would strongly encourage you to visit this site.
